Tip by Kristin Burk, Paw Paw, MI. Backrow Attacking:When I work on backrow attacking one of the drills I like to do is place an empty ball cart on one side of the court. All players are on the opposite side of the court with a ball. Players need to toss to themselves and attack the ball from behind the 10 ft. line while also trying to aim at the empty cart. The object is to have a good attack and force the cart out of bounds. I play for time, number of contacts it takes or competition between groups...

Tip by Andrea Roelen in Washington State. Right from the beginning of season as you are training players in your club, always have them practice SERVING CORNER TO CORNER straight down the line (6 to 8 feet from either the left or right sidelines) for any warm ups, drills and matches. Players should NOT be serving from the center of the court since this is where the libero most often serve receives. Teams have a much better chance of delivering a good ball to the setter when the ball is served in the middle of the court! Statistics show that...

Tip by Rob Zajdel from Coatesville, IN. In and Out DrillYou will have a setter start in the setting position and have a hitter start in the attacking location on the left side. You will have 2 passing lines, one in middle back and the other in left back.Coach will toss a ball to the player in the first line to pass to setter and the hitter will transition inside to attack a middle attack. Right after the ball is attacked, coach tosses another ball to the 2nd line. The attacker transitions back outside to attack that ball. The ball...

Tip by Kasey McDonald, Hendersville, NC. One of our favorite drills in the gym! It is a great defensive, out of systems, and overall gut-check drill. It is called "Bonsai" and it requires 2 people to run the drill and you can alter the number of players competing. All players start on the right back endline in the corner. There is a target on the diggers side and a coach/player on a box in zone 4 on the other side of the net. Only ONE person will go through the drill at a time.Player 1 has to dig the following...

Tip by Makenna Slack. Milan, MI. Elimination! - A great warm up or cool down drill for any age. I came up with this drill coaching a National 13U team that had a hard time coming to terms with their mistakes. I needed to find a way for them to not pass blame but also be okay with the mistake. I then later introduced this game to my Varsity squad and they loved it. This game can be played 6v6, 5v5, 4v4, etc. For this example, we will go with 6v6. The team plays a normal rally off an inserted...
