A fun drill we like to do in the spring (especially if working with lower numbers): Tiger Pepper (Or name of your mascot) Score starts at 0. End is 15. 3 back row players. Setter is front row Middle is front row NO LEFT FRONT! Introduce ball from down ball or free ball (coach can do it to keep it fast).
WINNER OF RALLY gets next ball. One side gets ball, rally out. Point for winning. Easy there. Middles can run anything in range what a middle can block or RS. So really no slides w out a left front.
If the ball falls and hits FLOOR without a hand underneath, it’s a point for the scoring team, but a demotion for the defense team. +1 for winner and -1 for loser! Again if the ball hits floor, kid dives, it’s a demotion. If the ball shanks off hand/even a pancake, it is just regular scoring. If the score is 14-9 we will say… And team w 14 gets the ball but doesn’t win the rally for that last ball to win, they drop to 10. They must seal the deal. Shank, got a hand on it, or hits wood, regardless it goes to 10 if they are on point 14.
